Working Together: Governments, Businesses, Non-Profits...

How should we collaborate with individuals, businesses, non-profits, other agencies, or state/local governments? What kinds of prizes/contests should we consider to attract others in working with us? What top problems should we tackle together?

Collaborations with medical schools

In an effort to provide better service to veterans, VA needs to hold supervising physicians accountable for the agreements with medical schools, which have changed greatly since World War II. Perhaps publishing salaries of highly compensated physicians and administrators, such as the university professors who appear to be paid for favors, not work. Sometimes, the VA seems to pay for "greasing palms" rather than service, ...more »

Other OpenGov Ideas & Information Resources

Other OpenGov Ideas & Information Resources Rather than post each of my "OpenGov" Ideas at 27 different websites, I have posted them at the GSA's website (since they are in the forefront of the OpenGov initiative). So, by this notice, the members of the OpenGov Team for your agency have been informed of those ideas. (At least, now, you can't say you were unaware of them.) http://opengsa.ideascale.com/a/pmd/29640-6960 ...more »

Internet Access for Veterans in VA Medical Centers

Presently, VA Medical Centers do not provide Veterans with bedside access to the Internet. Apparently, this is not an authorized use of VA bandwidth and network access. Why not provide Internet service to Veterans in VA Medical Centers by using donated funds and equipment? This is a great way to help Veterans by setting them up with a means to use the Internet while they are in a VA Medical Center. VA would need ...more »

Veterans' health insurance providers

Veterans are in a high risk pool in terms of obtaining health insurance. Instead of a separate health care system for veterans, has anyone evaluated the cost of the government just paying private health care insurance providers higher monthly insurance costs per veteran? Additionally, veterans could be put in the same risk pool as civilian federal employees to reduce the overall risk and create a larger pool for negotiation ...more »

Merge Claims Processing Services for CHAMPVA and Tricare

CHAMPVA and Tricare benefit claims are processed by two separate systems, one managed by the VA and one by DoD. The functionality of the processing is nearly identical (for instance, CHAMPVA pays the equivalent to Medicare/ TRICARE rates), with both systems reimbursing eligible enrollees for medical services provided by civilian (non-government) healthcare providers. Suggestion: Merge the CHAMPVA and Tricare claims ...more »

Entry to the VA System Needs to be Automatic Upon Discharge

Currently, the VA leaves it up to the discharged or retired Veteran to approach the VA to get signed up and into the VA system. Result is that most fall through the cracks. The VA and DoD need to work together with the goal that every single person coming off of Active Duty, retiring or leaving the Guard or Reserves is automatically signed up with the VA. That would be so very simple with computerized records. The ...more »

Set up Solution Architecture Innovation Lab (SAIL)

Medicare vs. VAHCS Benefits - Shouldn't they be Complimentary?

The vet and the VA have resource allocation issues from time to time. As mentioned elsewhere, it is an inherent conflict for the VAHCS to have to budget the care being provided. Within the VA system this conflict shows especially where referals to private medical serices are needed; where costly services are required [e.g. pain management by P.T., or by drugs or both versus prompt surgical treatment]; or where referrals ...more »

I think this is a real issue especially in term of access & cooperation between state/federal levels. Closing it and moving to off topic misses my point, sorry if I am saying "the emperor has no closes". I think accountability is key. Sincerely, Mr. Christopher C.
